Cartoon Lessons

John K is giving cartoon animation lessons based on Preston Blair's book on his blog. I just purchased this book recently and have decided to follow along with the lessons as John posts them. Here's the results from the first two lessons:

In the past few months I've been working on making my cartoons look more solid like cartoons from the 40's. Hopefully following the lessons and John's advice will help this 'old man' improve his cartoon prowess.

Wow, great stuff man! Soon as work lets out I was going to go back and try revisiting lesson one again, but after seeing these nice drawings I now absolutely MUST go back and do lesson one over. These turned out great!

Cool to see someone as skilled as you join in Brian! These all look great. No matter how closely my drawing matches Blair's it still doesn't feel like it has the personality and appeal of his drawings but you certainly gave life to yours. Good job!

Thanks everyone! Even though I've been drawing cartoons for as long as I could hold a crayon, pencil or marker, I've never had any formal cartoon or animation training. All I've learned is from watching old cartoons, reading books and trial and error. Even though I have some decent cartooning skills now, I still strive to improve and hopefully reach the level of my favorite cartoonists from the 30's and 40's.
