Ren and Stimpy: The Lost Episodes DVD

Okay, so it's been out a for over a week and I haven't said a peep about this DVD. I'm not going to get into some long boring review because nothing I write can convey how hilarious and well drawn these episodes are. However, I will go out on a limb and say this is the best cartoon animation made for television to date. Check out some of the great cartooning below, you won't see drawings this good on Family Guy!

Check out this awesome duck! When's the last time you've seen a cartoon character on TV with a unique expression?

I assume the "Family Guy" comment was in-part directed at me - so i will concede and agree with the quality of cartooning exhibited by the "rem and stimpy" project. But, I will once again make the point that if you are watching the Family Guy, the Simpsons, South Park, or even Beavis and Butthead solely on the merrit of cartooning - you either have zero sence of humor or are a member of a blog that points out the inconsistencies in episodes of Star Trek TNG as comparied to the Technical Manuals available at Barns and Noble - you can't miss them - they are right next to the ever diminishing AD&D hard bound section of refference material.

It was directed at people who think Family Guy is a great cartoon and not you specifically. You're not the only one of my friends that thinks Family Guy is funny. At least the Simpsons and South Park had some funny writing at times and could illicit some laughs from me. South Park is particularly good at social and political satire. Beavis and Butthead while crude, still had some funny drawings going on as well as funny writing and voices.

A cartoon with good writing but lousy cartooning is like watching a movie with a brilliant script but the actors totally suck. For me if the whole package isn't there it's not worth my time. I don't think people should accept mediocre entertainment so easily.

I don't think your comparison to Star Trek nerds really works since I'm not harping on the details of an imaginary universe. I'm just pointing out the reality is 98% of today's cartoons are garbage.

Oh my god Mr. Horse has always been and will always be my favorite Ren and Stimpy character. Not only is he hilarious with his faces of pondering, but his girlfriend is a freaking sheep!!!

also brian, i could never see the interest in family guy. i have so many friends who think that Steuy is the most hilarious thing they have ever seen but honestly, i just cant get into it. I think im inconsistent though because i really like Futurama and such... i dont know. i think it just has to have a specific spark to appeal to me. I do have to say... that Ever since day one... Southpark has always made me laugh hysterically!

Futurama had some really funny episodes. Imagine how much better it would be with killer cartoon animation to go along with it!

There is nothing wrong with the animation in any of the shows you have mentioned.

I mean obviouslly i know where you are coming from, you are a fan of a PARTICULAR type of animation.

R&S kind of harks back to the days of hanna barbara in style but we have the clearer quality and detail thats expected of nowadays.

Now to think that EVERYTHING should like that (which is what you are basically saying, you sit and say futuramas animation isnt "killer"?? It is, just in the style you like) is just rediculous.

We all have our opinions, and I can see where yours comes from, but it is by no way a fact and in no way is it actually valid in critisizing other cartoons.

Just a note, South Park is the best cartoon. Period.

And Family Guy is a great show. Sometimes it'sa bit hit and miss, but others its hilarious. Dont forget FG is about homage, cultural references, and the quick laughs that dont rely so heavily on a story. What we laugh the most at is just each character reacting exactly in character and it is their idiosyncrasies that we love.

Some people can't into that. But the majority seem to be able to.

First off, if you'd like to be taken seriously post with your real name instead of hiding behind the veil of internet anonymity.

I'm actually a fan of many types of animation. I like early Windsor McKay, Fleischer, WB, MGM as well as Jan Svankmeyer, the Brothers Quay, Aeon Flux, Triplets of Belleville, various Hayao Miyazaki and Pixar films.

I'm not saying everything should look like Ren & Stimpy. I do expect a certain level of quality. Futurama and The Simpsons do not qualify as good animation, the characters barely have any specific expressions and movement. The designs are generic. There's no life on the screen in these shows.

South Park has brilliant writing, but it barely qualifies as a cartoon. It's basically a digital puppet show. The visuals are just a vehicle for the writing. There's little synergy between sound and visuals.

Family Guy not only has horrible cartoon animation, but lazy comedic writing too. It appeals to a lot of people largely because most people are idiots. It has no real point of view and says nothing about human nature. It's mostly a bunch of loosely strung together pop cultural references.
