This past weekend Leah and I attended the wedding of my art school pal and long time friend Jesse & his delightful bride Noël. The wedding was held in Salem Massachusetts where there are more black cloaks per capita than any other town in the USA. We stayed at the charming & haunted Hawthorne Hotel. These two are great together and we are very happy for them! A big thank you to both of you for allowing me to take part in your cermony, it meant a lot to me.
We just got a Canon Digital Rebel XTi Digital SLR Camera today. 10.1 megapixels! I can't wait to put this sucker to good use.
Here's some of my work as seen in YRB Magazine. I had a lot fun while facing the challenge of making these two cheese characters have unique personalities and expressions. I made good use of my iSight web cam by modeling for both of these freaks.
Ren and Stimpy creator and cartoon pioneer John Kricfalusi has posted a very interesting piece on the death of form. He uses toy design to demonstrate the decline of form after 1960. John also discusses the general decline of art and entertainment. Be sure to read through the comments with some funny and interesting posts from Eddie Fitzgerald and Marlo Meekins. While I don't think 'hippies destroyed western civilization', I do agree that having a firm grasp on traditional creative skills has become rare. Without this solid foundation any artist becomes limited in how they can express themselves visually.
Well I've been working like a beast! The good news is Leah and I will have some decent bank before we move. The bad news is we're booked up until December which means we won't be making our move until late December and arriving in LA the first week of January. Leah recently booked our flight out in early December for a one week apartment hunt! I've been assured that we should be able to find a place in that amount of time. Let's hope so!
While you're at don't forget to check out Amid's book Cartoon Modern published by Chronicle Books. If you're into graphic cartoon designs and backgrounds this book is a must have. Go get it now!
