Inking John K's Sody Pop & Raketeena

After some encouragement from John K I stayed in last night and took a shot at inking the other Sody & Raketeena frames. They're not perfect, but I think they capture the energy of John's drawings as well as do a good job of describing form. It's pretty challenging and a little scary to clean up someone else's work, especially when they're a much better draftsman and cartoonist than you. John pointed some areas that need to be fixed which I'll address before I color them.

Sketch to Finish: Subway Nap Helmet

Here's a look at a piece that I just wrapped up for an upcoming issue of YRB Magazine. I've been swamped with work and all the crap that goes along with moving, but I had to take the three illustration jobs they offered me. I only wish I had more time to make each one perfect, but they were wrapping up the issue and contacted me last minute. This one is for a blurb about the "Subway Nap Helmet". It's basically a helmet attached to a suction cup so you can snooze on the subway without leaning on a stranger. You can learn more about it on the TechEBlog. Anyway, below is the marker sketch and then the final vector art. Enjoy!

Apple Has Done It Again: iPhone

I pretty much soiled myself when I saw the demos of the upcoming Apple iPhone. People are already bitching that it's too expensive and will prove to be a failure. That's exactly what early critics of the iPod said. Yet here we are seven years later and there's not a single competitor that even comes close to the massive 60 percent strangle hold that Apple has on the market. I'm only pissed that Leah and I can't buy one until June when the iPhone ships.

Happy New Year!

Leah and I survived our cross country drive from New Jersey to Hollywood despite U-Haul mishaps, freezing rain and the state of Texas. Thanks to all of you who posted or e-mailed us about our move. Once we get the downstairs studio set up we'll be back to posting more frequently.

2007 is starting strong with lots of clients kicking off new projects this month. YRB Magazine has me doing more illustrations starting this weekend!
